Student-Athletes often face immense pressure, juggling the demands of academics and sports. Recognizing the importance of mindset is vital for student-athletes’ overall development. A healthy mind is not only essential for their wellbeing but also impacts their athletic performance. Mental well-being contributes to focus, confidence, and resilience, which are crucial qualities in both academics and athletics. Providing support and resources is crucial to optimize an athlete’s development. When athletes use resources and learn live with healthy mental well-being, they become more balanced and have a better overall college experience.

Reducing the Stigma about Mental Health
Acknowledging the struggles openly and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health is the most important thing. When student-athletes continue to feel safer to talk about their concerns, the more likely they will be to improving their experience in college athletics. Coaches, teammates, professors, and peers is an athlete’s support staff and the more supportive these people are, the better chance the athlete will have to optimize their experience wherever they are. Encouraging open conversations and finding great mentors and supporting staff the better that athlete will be able to perform. Continuing to encourage taking control of your mind will only benefit you as a student athlete.
